celebrate its 100th year of service in February 2004. To kick off
the anniversary year, Family Services will feature "A Century
of Service: Changing Times, Changing Families," an oral history
of the organization presented by historian Mike Lesperance.
WHO:
Since 1904, Family Services has continued
to adapt to changing times to meet the needs of Houston's families.
While the needs of Houston's families have changed, Family Services
has provided them with the stability and security needed to face life's
challenges. Over the past century, Family Services has been providing
counseling, education and support services to give children and families
the tools and skills needed to improve their lives and the Houston
community.

WHY:
Family Services has a fascinating history
that mirrors houston's historical changes. Family Services and Houston
have grown up together. People followed oil to the young city and
social needs followed the people. From an influenza epidemic in 1918
to devastating flooding in 2001, Family Services has been here for
all Houstonians. The challenges that await Houston in the next 100
years are uncertain but Family Services will be here to meet them.
