Special gifts to our families

Family Services recently received two unexpected gifts from the community.

One was a donation of 205 International House of Pancake gift certificates from The Buckingham Life Care Retirement Community, a senior living community that is currently being built. The donation was made in honor of Family Services 100th anniversary and will benefit Family Services’ families and senior clients and also be used as incentives for Family Services’ HIV Education Program.

“The Buckingham congratulates Family Services of Greater Houston as it celebrates a century of service to the Houston community,” said Nancy Hillmer, Vice President of Marketing for The Buckingham.

The donation was made as part of a The Buckingham’s 2004 Mardi Gras event. The number of gift certificates represents the 205 future senior residents of The Buckingham, which will open in March 2005.

Second, Mike and Lisa Holthouse and The Holthouse Foundation for Kids donated 200 passes for The Children’s Museum of Houston, which were made available through the Holthouses’ support of the Museum’s 2004 gala.

The passes will benefit children and families who participate in Family Services’ Family Literacy Program and award-winning substance abuse prevention and education program, Ensueños del Futuro.

These donations are welcome gifts to our low-income families. If you would like to make a similar donation, call 713-802-7857.
