Family Services 100th Anniversary Gala took
place on the evening of February 20, 2004 at the InterContinental Hotel
and honored President George H.W. Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush and their
family. The gala, titled Changing Times, Changing Families,
celebrates Family Services 100 years of service to the Houston community
as well as honors the Bush family for their support and dedication to
the Houston community. The event raised more than $550,000, with Holthouse
Foundation for Kids serving as the Presenting Sponsor with a $50,000 donation.
It was the most succesful event in the agency's history. Ben and Margaret Love and Jeff and Kathy Love served as Honorary Chairs of the gala and Lynda and William L. Transier served as Chairs. Other past honorees, including Jim and Maureen Hackett, Rod Paige and Chuck and Kim Watson, to name a few, were also acknowledged. Mrs. Bush was Family Services 1st Annual Celebration of Families Luncheon speaker in 1990. Also, as a part of re-discovering Family Services history, we learned that 35 years ago, President Bush, then Congressman Bush, was the featured speaker at Family Services Annual Meeting.
