Family Services and Houston have grown up together. People followed oil to the young city, and social needs followed the people. From an influenza epidemic in 1918 to devastating flooding in 2002, Family Services has been here for all Houstonians.

The needs of Houston’s families have changed over the past century, and – since 1904 – Family Services has constantly evolved to help them meet new challenges.

We can’t say what challenges await Houston in the next 100 years. But we know Family Services
will be here to meet them.

Helping Houston’s families has been our mission for 100 years.

We’ve helped families survive health crises from smallpox in the 1900s to HIV/AIDS today. Family Services helped Houston’s orphans find homes in the 1920s.

Today our staff works with at-risk children in Houston area schools.

When women entered the workforce during WWII in the 1940s, our homemakers kept households running.

Today, we provide counseling that keeps families together.

Family counseling has always been at the core of Family Services. Circumstances change. Needs change. Relationships change. And over the past century our services have changed. But our commitment to helping people help themselves is constant.Over the past century, Family Services has helped Houston respond to natural disasters, war, substance abuse, domestic violence, terrorism…

Whatever our city has needed,
whenever it has needed it.
