Families and children celebrate National Family Week

Family Services celebrated the 32nd annual National Family Week during the week of Thanksgiving in recognition of the connections Houston residents have with their families and communities.

National Family Week embraces the premise that children live better lives when their families are strong and families are strong when they live in communities that connect them to economic opportunities, social networks and services. Family Services received a proclamation from Mayor Lee Brown declaring November 24th through November 30th Houston Family Week.

In recognition of National Family Week, Family Services hosted two events for students and families of Ensueños del Futuro, Family Services’ substance abuse prevention, intervention and education program. Thirty-five (35) 5th grade students at Memorial Elementary School participated in an art contest. The winning artwork will be featured on Family Services’ 9th annual Celebration of Families Luncheon invitation.

Family Services coordinated an activity for 120 students to attend a Houston Texans football game on November 26th as part of the Texans’ All-Star Ticket Program. As a part of the program, the students participated in life skills and drug prevention education, while their parents participated in family life and relationship skills classes. Students also completed service projects in the community.
